What is the ESOL exam?
The LanguageCert ESOL test is designed to check if the young learners who are at the age of 16 can use English in both school as well as everyday situations.
This test is aligned with CEFR levels from A1 to B2 and delivered through approved test centres, ensuring a reliable test environment for the candidates.
Exams in the Family
- A1 For Schools
A1 is a basic English skills exam.
There is a total of 1 hour 40 minutes allocated to the written exam (20 minutes for Listening, 1 hour and 20 minutes for Reading and Writing).
- Listening has 4 sections, and the tasks are multiple choice. You will be matching information, choosing responses, and identifying details in short conversations.
- For Reading, you will be filling gaps, matching information, and choosing a particular text.
- For Writing, you will be composing 4 sentences for a total of 30 words, in addition to a message or a letter of 20 to 30 words.
- The speaking exam is 6 minutes long. You will answer personal questions, complete a picture task, and give a short talk. The written portion is scored out of 150, and the speaking is scored out of 50. You must score 50% to pass.
- A2 For Schools
A2 follows a similar structure but with increased difficulty. The written exam is also 1 hour 40 minutes.
- Listening includes tasks like matching sentences, understanding short conversations, and identifying specific information.
- Reading includes 6–7 questions per part, focusing on gaps and text comprehension.
- Writing includes a 30–50 word letter or message.
- The speaking test is 6 minutes, including role-play, picture comparison, and short speaking tasks.
- B1 For Schools
B1 is more advanced with a 2 hour 40 minute written exam.
- Listening lasts 30 minutes, including note-taking and identifying opinions, attitudes, and main ideas.
- Reading includes longer texts and multiple-choice questions.
- Writing includes 70–120 words, such as formal responses and informal letters.
- Speaking lasts 12 minutes, including discussions, planning tasks, and extended answers.
- B2 For Schools
B2 is the highest level for schools. The exam is 2 hours 40 minutes written + 13-minute speaking test.
- Tasks include advanced listening (radio, discussions), complex reading texts, and writing 100–200 words (formal and informal tasks).
- Speaking includes discussions, problem-solving, and long responses with follow-up questions.
Results & Certification
LanguageCert ESOL for Schools quickly and understandably helps students with exam results.
After taking the exam, students are issued a Statement of Result and an e-certificate explaining their performance.
Electronic exams are reported in 5 business days, while paper exams are reported in 10 days.
